iPhone 18 Pro is here. Here is what changes for your NFC card.

Apple ran its "Surprise and shine" event on 9 September — the first one led by John Ternus rather than Tim Cook — and put two new phones on stage: the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Alongside them, the first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo.
We sell NFC business cards, so people have already started asking us the same question in two different ways. Will my Tapvyo card work on the new iPhone? And, more quietly, do I need to buy anything?
Short answers: yes, and no. The longer version is below, laid out the way most people actually search for it.
What Apple actually launched
Two Pro phones. That is it for this September.
iPhone 18 Pro — 6.3-inch display, same size as last year.
iPhone 18 Pro Max — 6.9-inch display, also unchanged.
The visible change is the Dynamic Island, which is now smaller and can hold up to three Live Activities at once. Inside, both run the A20 Pro, built on a 2-nanometer process, with a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU and a 32-core Neural Engine. Apple's claim is up to 40% faster sustained performance than the A19 Pro — the word sustained is doing real work there, and the three-times-larger vapour chamber is why they can say it.
Battery is the genuinely interesting bit. The 18 Pro now matches last year's Pro Max at up to 24 hours of typical use. The 18 Pro Max goes to 30 hours, which Apple is calling its biggest generational battery jump ever. Fifty percent charge in about 15 minutes.
On the camera, the 48MP Fusion main sensor gets a variable aperture on both models — a physical iris that opens wider in low light instead of faking depth in software. Front camera is 18MP Center Stage. Video goes up to Dolby Vision 4K at 120fps.
Colours: Black, Silver, Glacier, Burgundy.
Which iPhone 18 did not launch
Worth saying plainly, because the search results are a mess right now.
There is no standard iPhone 18 yet. Apple has split its release calendar — the Pro models and the foldable came in September, and the regular iPhone 18 along with the iPhone 18e is expected in early 2027. If you are waiting for the non-Pro model to hand your NFC card to, you are waiting until next year.
The iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable, was also announced: a book-style fold with a 7.6-inch inner display, Touch ID, $1,999, shipping from October.
When you can buy it in India
Pre-orders open Saturday, 12 September at 5:30 pm IST on Apple's India Store.
On sale Friday, 18 September.
India is not on Apple's eSIM-only list this year, so Indian units are expected to keep the physical SIM tray.

The Pro Max premium is a flat ₹15,000 at every tier. The 2TB option is new to the iPhone this year.
Apple's India store lists up to six months of No Cost EMI, with monthly payments from around ₹26,316, and up to ₹7,000 instant cashback on eligible cards. Trade-in credit runs from ₹4,500 to ₹81,500 depending on what you hand over. As always, read which banks qualify before you assume the headline number applies to you.
Separately: iOS 27 arrives on 14 September for every iPhone from the 11 onwards, bringing the rebuilt Siri AI. You do not need a new phone for that part.
Where you tap — and why nothing breaks
Here is the part we actually care about.
Apple changed the chip, the camera, the battery and the price. It did not change NFC. The iPhone 18 Pro reads NFC tags the same way every iPhone since the XS has: background reading is always on, and the antenna sits at the top of the phone, near the camera.
So the routine is unchanged. Hold your Tapvyo card to the top rear of an unlocked iPhone 18 Pro. A banner drops down. The other person taps it and your profile opens in their browser. No app on your side, no app on theirs.
Your card stores a URL and nothing else — which is exactly why a new phone generation cannot obsolete it. The chip in your card has no battery, no software and no version number to fall behind. There is nothing in an iPhone 18 Pro for it to be incompatible with.
Who this genuinely matters for
Two groups, and they are not the same.
If you are buying an 18 Pro. Nothing to do. Your existing card works from the moment you finish setup. If you are also changing your number or your email during the switch, update your profile rather than reprinting anything — the cards already in other people's wallets will point at the new details the same afternoon.
If the people you meet are buying one. This is the real story. Every September pushes a few million more phones in India onto hardware where a tap just works, and the "sorry, my phone doesn't do that" excuse gets rarer. A paper card does not get better when the other person upgrades. An NFC card does, quietly, without you doing anything.
Why we are not going to pretend this is a big deal
An honest note, since we would rather you trusted the blog than bought something today.
The iPhone 18 Pro is a good spec bump and an expensive one. Nothing about it makes NFC cards newly viable — they already were. And nothing about it makes your current phone worse at reading them. If you are on an iPhone 12 or a mid-range Android from 2022, the tap works identically. The reader has been in these phones for years and is not the bottleneck.
The bottleneck was always whether you had something worth tapping.
The short version
Two Pro phones. Same sizes, faster chip, real aperture control, much better battery, ₹1,64,900 upwards in India, pre-orders 12 September, on sale 18 September. The standard iPhone 18 comes in 2027. iOS 27 lands on 14 September for everyone.
And your NFC card keeps doing the one thing it does, on the newest iPhone and on the oldest one that supports it.
If you do not have one yet, build your profile — it takes a few minutes, costs ₹599 once, and works on whatever phone the person across the table happens to be holding. If you want the mechanics first, here is what actually happens when someone taps.
